NEW YORK - New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has recalled forward Marek Hrivik from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL). The team has also assigned Daniel Paille to Hartford.
Hrivik, 24, has skated in 52 games with the Wolf Pack this season, registering seven goals and 21 assists for 28 points, along with 16 penalty minutes. He has tied his AHL career-high in assists in 2015-16, recording 21 assists in 20 fewer games than when he established his AHL career-high last season (52 games in 2015-16; 72 games in 2014-15). Hrivik leads the Wolf Pack in assists, ranks second in points, is tied for second in shorthanded goals (one), and ranks third in shots on goal (118) this season. Hrivik has notched a point in four of his last seven games (one goal, three assists), including an assist last night at Springfield. In addition, he has registered 12 points (three goals, nine assists) and has posted a plus-11 rating in his last 17 games with the Wolf Pack.
The 6-2, 205-pounder has skated in 246 career AHL games over parts of five seasons, all with Connecticut/Hartford, registering 40 goals and 75 assists for 115 points, along with a plus-six rating and 60 penalty minutes. Hrivik established AHL career-highs in assists (21), points (33), and plus/minus rating (plus-eight) in 2014-15. He has also skated in 24 career AHL playoff games, recording eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points, along with 16 penalty minutes. Hrivik tallied nine points (three goals, six assists) in 15 playoff games last season while helping Hartford advance to the Eastern Conference Final.
Prior to beginning his professional career, Hrivik played three seasons of junior hockey with the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). In 179 career games with Moncton, Hrivik registered 93 goals and 111 assists for 204 points, along with a plus-29 rating and 40 penalty minutes. In his first season with the Wildcats in 2009-10, Hrivik helped Moncton win the President's Cup as QMJHL Champions, and he recorded one assist in three games while playing in the Memorial Cup that season.
Internationally, the Zilina, Slovakia native has represented his country in several tournaments. Most recently, Hrivik represented Slovakia at the 2014 IIHF World Championship. He also represented Slovakia twice at the IIHF World Junior Championship (2009, 2011).
Hrivik was signed by the Rangers as an undrafted free agent on May 30, 2012.
Paille skated in 12 games with the Rangers after signing with the team as a free agent on Jan. 21, 2016. He registered 16 hits, 11 shots on goal, and nine blocked shots with the Blueshirts.
