Albany Devils News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. -Matt Moulson's hat trick led the Manchester Monarchs' offense in a 7-2 victory over the Lowell Devils on Saturday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
Leading just 2-1 late in the first period, a 5-on-3 man-advantage allowed the Monarchs to break open the contest. Mark Moulson was left alone on the near post at 18:38 to tap in Justin Azevedo's centering pass. On the ensuing 5-on-4, Brian Boyle made score 4-1 with 11 seconds left until the break, batting a bouncing puck in the slot under Caruso's pad.
The Devils were able to strike back early in the second on the power play and pull within two when Patrick Davis' pass to the crease ricocheted off Vladimir Zharkov's skate and past Bernier at 2:02.
Moulson squashed any potential rally for Lowell with two unanswered goals that completed the Manchester forward's hat trick. A missed clearing attempt for the Devils led to a Moulson wrister from the right dot that found the back of the net at 5:01. Working off the cycle on the near boars, Moulson then one-timed his third of the night into the top corner at 13:49
Azevedo would put the Monarchs up, 7-2, only 22 seconds later after a turnover deep in the Lowell zone.
The Monarchs needed only 73 seconds to take a 1-0 edge as Oscar Moller drove a shot from the right circle that Gabe Gauthier redirected past Dave Caruso.
Nicklas Bergfors tied the score, 1-1, at 7:15 of the first as he worked a give-and-go with Barry Tallackson before beating Jonathan Bernier from the far side.
Dave Meckler helped Manchester regain its one-goal lead at 14:23, crashing toward the net to bang home the rebound from Marc-Andre Cliche's initial shot.
The Lowell Devils play the Worcester Sharks on home ice on Sunday, February 22 at 4:00 p.m. Listen to the game live on 980AM-WCAP or ahllive.com. For more information about individual tickets and group packages, call (978) 458-PUCK (7825) or log on to www.lowelldevilshockey.com.
