
Bulldogs freeze Penguins 4-1

amilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 4-1 on Saturday night in front of 5,155 at Copps Coliseum. Ryan Russell recorded two goals to lead the Bulldogs to victory.
Following a scoreless first period, the Penguins drew first blood with a marker at 3:12 of the middle frame. Adam Henrich sent a pass to Paul Bissonnette, who fired a shot that was saved by Hamilton starting goaltender Marc Denis. Aaron Boogaard grabbed the loose rebound and proceeded to fire the puck over Denis' blocker.
The Bulldogs tied the game at 16:28 of the second frame. T.J. Kemp fired a shot on net that was tipped by Tyler Shelast but Wilkes-Barre starting goaltender John Curry made the save. Curry allowed a rebound, which Russell banged past the netminder for the marker.
Hamilton gained the lead at 4:05 of the final frame. Russell earned a breakaway after receiving a pass from J.T. Wyman. Russell raced in on goal before blasting a shot that beat Curry through the five-hole to give the âDogs a 2-1 lead. Brock Trotter increased Hamilton's lead at 6:09. Trotter skated into the Penguins' zone on a three-on-one but elected to shoot the puck rather than pass. Trotter faked a shot which got Curry out of position, allowing Trotter to fire the puck into an open net. Shelast clinched the game for Hamilton after potting an empty net goal at 19:28. .
The Bulldogs will play their third game in as many days tomorrow evening when they host the Syracuse Crunch at 4:00 p.m. at Copps Coliseum.
