Delaware 87ers guard Russ Smith came off the bench to record a game-high 37 points and led the 87ers to a 119-104 victory over Raptors 905 Friday evening at Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Delaware.
Delaware opened with an early 12-point lead just over four minutes in, which held up as the 87ers' largest lead of the night until the final minutes of the game. Raptors 905 fought back to erase Delaware's first-quarter lead, bringing the game to a tie early in the second period, but trailed 62-57 at halftime.
Jordan McRae's 11 third-quarter points paced the 87ers to a six-point advantage heading into the final period. In the fourth quarter, Raptors 905 wasn't able to fend off the potent Delaware attack, which was led by Russ Smith's 16 points in the frame en route to sealing the win.
Along with Russ Smith's 37 points, Delaware had double-digit point totals from McRae (23), Juwan Staten (14), Christian Wood (13) and Sam Thompson (11). Raptors 905 was led offensively by Scott Suggs (22), Ronald Roberts Jr. (22), Greg Smith (16) and Axel Toupane (15). Greg Smith had a game-high 13 rebounds, while Roberts Jr. added 10 rebounds as both players completed double-doubles. Raptors 905's Shannon Scott contributed a game-high eight assists.
Delaware led Raptors 905 in field goal percentage (50.0-42.2), free throw percentage (74.2-74.1), points in the paint (62-50) and fast-break points (20-9), while the two teams tied in three-point percentage (34.8) and second-chance points (11).
Raptors 905 is back in action Saturday, January 16 when the club hosts the Westchester Knicks at Hershey Centre in Mississauga at 7 p.m.
