Texas Legends News Release
FRISCO, TX - The Texas Legends (11-9) defeated the Santa Cruz Warriors (10-14) 108-88 Friday night at Dr Pepper Arena to even the season series at 2-2.
The home team grabbed the first points of the night and quickly built up a 5-0 lead. The two teams exchanged baskets until the 2:44 mark when the Legends gave up the lead for the first and only time. Despite a dunk from Mac Koshwal with one second remaining, the Legends held onto a 22-21 lead heading into the second. Manny Harris and Micheal Eric added 6 points apiece as the Legends built up an 8-point lead at the half.
Harris continued his hot streak coming out of the locker room, firing off 10 points in the third quarter. The Legends shot 68% and held the visitors to 28% shooting for 20 points. The lead thickened to 20 by the end of the third as the Warriors struggled with missed opportunities. Texas built up to their largest lead of the night in the final quarter as Eric slammed in his only points of the fourth to take the Legends up by 26 halfway through. Terrence Drisdom provided a spark for the lagging visitors with 10 points in 8 minutes, but there was no catching up in front of a rowdy home crowd.
The Legends shot a season-high 58% to the Warriors' 39% and outrebounded the visitors 41-36. Harris led Texas with 27 points, tying a season-high 5 threes and adding 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Brandon Ashley added 16 pts, 8 rebounds and 6 assists while Eric added the game's only double-double of 12 points, 11 rebounds.
Dan Nwaelele tallied 19 points from 8-of-14 shooting to lead Santa Cruz in scoring while Kevon Looney came off the bench for a team-high 10 rebounds. Drisdom finished the night with 12 points off the bench and Daniel Orton rounded off the double-digit scores with 10.
The two teams will rematch Saturday night at 7pm as the Legends host their annual Military Night. The American Fallen Soldiers Project will honor Navy CPO (SEAL) Chris Kyle at halftime and the Legends will wear custom jerseys presented by Swypit.com. The game will be broadcast live on Texas-47 as well as online through the NBA D-League's YouTube channel and www.kvgiradio.com.
