Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Skyforce (18-4) held off a late run by the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (11-11) to earn a 109-104 victory at the Sanford Pentagon on Friday night.
With the win, the Skyforce have now won nine straight home games, 10 of the last 11 overall and are a perfect 3-0 against the Mad Ants this season.
Miami HEAT assignee Jarnell Stokes (28 points, 15 rebounds) led the way for Sioux Falls, setting a new NBA Development League career high in points. Stokes also set a new season high in rebounds with 15 and has now notched a double-double in four straight games.
Jabril Trawick contributed 17 points off the bench for the Skyforce as six different players scored in double figures. Trawick has now scored in double figures in seven of his last nine contests. Tre Kelley (13 points, nine assists) has scored in double figures in 21 of the teams 22 games this season.
After a back-and-forth first quarter, Sioux Falls outscored Fort Wayne 28-14 in the second quarter to take a 13-point lead into the half. The Mad Ants hovered within eight points of the Skyforce for the majority of the second half, but were never able to retake the lead.
Late heroics by John Lucas (21 points, six rebounds, six assists) and the Mad Ants brought the game to within as little as three points with under a minute to go, ultimately coming up short in the loss. Walter Lemon Jr. added 18 points and CJ Fair added 17 points as Fort Wayne saw five different players score in double figures on the night.
The Mad Ants scored 29 points off of 21 Sioux Falls turnovers, but the Skyforce were able to hang on to the lead down the stretch by out-rebounding the Mad Ants 46-24 and scoring 70 points in the paint in the game compared to just 32 by Fort Wayne.
Sioux Falls will look to extend their home winning streak to double digits when they take on the Iowa Energy (12-10) on Tuesday, January 19.
Fort Wayne will be on the road next Friday, January 22, to take on the Maine Red Claws (12-9).
