Devin Ebanks Scores a Season-Best 29, But Grand Rapids Falls to Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa - Devin Ebanks scored a season-high 29 points on Friday night, but it wasn ' t enough.

The Grand Rapids Drive lost 112-98 to the Iowa Energy in front of 6,158 fans at Wells Fargo Arena.

Grand Rapids, the affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, falls to 10-10. Iowa (12-10), whose parent team is the Memphis Grizzlies, began January on seven-game losing streak. But they have now won five in a row.

Ebanks, a 6-foot-9 forward out of West Virginia, was 10-of-19 from the field and 7-of-11 from the free-throw line. His previous high in points was 28 on Dec. 16 against the Raptors. He leads Grand Rapids with 19 points per game.

Branden Dawson, the former Michigan State forward, scored a season-high 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting. He was followed in scoring by Ryan Boatright (12), Dahntay Jones (11), Kam Holsey (11) and Spender Dinwiddie, who had 10 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds. Dinwiddie is on assignment from the Pistons.

Ebanks was on fire in the first half. He scored 10 points to help the Drive jump out to a 16-4 lead to start the game and take a 33-23 lead at the end of the first quarter. He finished with 19 points in the first half as Grand Rapids, which led by as many as 13 points, held a lead 58-57 at the break.

The newest Drive player, Gary Talton, checked into the game midway through the first quarter wearing big No. 96 on his back and no name plate. He will wear No. 14 when the team returns home. Grand Rapids acquired the 6-foot-1 guard from Delaware on Thursday for forward Sam Thompson. Talton finished with 4 points, 4 assists and 5 rebounds.

Joel Wright led Iowa with 21 points.

Grand Rapids begins a three-game homestand on Monday when it takes on Maine for a 7 p.m. game at the DeltaPlex Arena.
