Maine Celtics News Release

Portland, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, were unable to overcome a slow start on Friday night against the Canton Charge as the visitors led from start to finish and handed the Red Claws their second straight loss, 105-93. The win extends Canton's winning streak to five games.

Malcolm Miller led the Red Claws with a career-high 23 points, and Jordan Mickey, on assignment from the Boston Celtics, finished two blocks shy of another triple-double with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 8 blocked shots. Terry Rozier, also on assignment from the Celtics, added 16 points on 5-20 shooting.

The Charge (10-11) opened the game on a 13-2 run, paced by John Holland and Christiano Felicio, who is on assignment from the Chicago Bulls via the flexible assignment rule. The Red Claws (12-9) got the game back to within two after Malcom Miller and Jordan Mickey, on assignment from the Boston Celtics, paced a 13-5 run. Quinn Cook and Nick Minnerath ran the lead back up to 25-18 before Omari Johnson converted a three pointer to close out the quarter with the Charge leading 25-21.

The second quarter was more of the same, with Canton opening up a 10-2 run to extend their lead to 12 points. The Red Claws battled back, with Andre Stringer, Corey Walden and Mickey battling back to cut the lead to 40-34. The run was short lived, however, as Cook scored six straight as part of a 10-0 run. Levi Randolph, Mickey and Walden closed out the half with nine straight points to head into the half trailing 50-43.

The teams traded baskets early in the third, with Mickey and Terry Rozier, also on assignment from the Celtics being matched by Jorge Gutierrez and Felicio. Cook again caught the hot hand, scoring five straight to push the lead to 61-47. Miller and Johnson scored five to break up the run, but Felicio and Holland took over to spark a 10-2 run and take firm control of the game. The teams traded baskets again, with Rozier and Walden matching Felicio and Minnerath. Davion Berry converted a three at the buzzer to end the third quarter with the Maine trailing 84-69.

Canton scored the first 10 points of the fourth quarter before Maine went on a 13-4 run to cut the lead down to 96-82. Rozier scored 10 of Maine's final 13 points, but it wasn't enough for the Red Claws to overcome the Charge as Canton remains undefeated since Felicio was assigned on December 28th.

Cook led all scorers with 25 points, adding six assists in the win. Minnerath (22), Felicio (12 points, eight rebounds, two blocks), Holland (11 points, seven rebounds), Antoine Agudio (11) and Gutierrez (10 points, four assists) were the other Charge players in double figures. Michael Dunigan and Sir'Dominic Porter each had eight rebounds and Michael Stockton added eight assists.

The Red Claws were paced by Miller (23 points, seven rebounds, two blocks). They also got strong efforts from Rozier (16 points, four rebounds, four assists), Mickey (13 points, 12 rebounds, eight blocked shots), Walden (12 points, six rebounds) and Berry (10). Johnson added nine points and five rebounds.

The Red Claws and Charge return to action tomorrow night at the Portland Expo Building. Tipoff is 8:00 PM.
