Dameworth Named Captain
October 8, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings of the United Hockey League announce their captain and assistant captains for the upcoming 2002-2003 season.
Serving as captain of the K-Wings this season will be defenseman Chad Dameworth. Dameworth joined the K-Wings during the off-season after spending the past three seasons with the New Orleans Brass of the East Coast Hockey League.
Kaufman also announced the team's assistant captains for this season. Wearing the "A" this season will be Mark Lawrence and Justin Cardwell. This will be Lawrence's second season with the K-Wings in the UHL, and his 7th season playing for the K-Wings overall. Cardwell is entering his first season with the K-Wings. Though this is Justin's first season with the K-Wings, he is no stranger to the Kalamazoo area. Justin played his junior hockey with the Junior K-Wings and his college hockey at Western Michigan University.
"All three individuals have demonstrated character and leadership during the preseason," said Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach Mark Kaufman.
All three players have shown leadership qualities over their professional careers. For the past two seasons, Dameworth served as the team captain for the New Orleans Brass. In the beginning of last season, Lawrence was the K-Wings assistant captain. Mark also served as the team's interim Head Coach for the final month and half of the season. Also, for the past two seasons, Cardwell has worn either the captain "C" or the assistant "A" for the Fort Worth Brahmas of the Central Hockey League.
The K-Wings open the 2002-2003 season this Friday, October 11th, at 7:30 pm, as the K-Wings travel to Port Huron to play the expansion Port Huron Beacons.
Kalamazoo opens its home portion of the 2002-2003 schedule on Saturday, October 19th, as the K-Wings host the Flint Generals at 7:30 pm at Wings Stadium. The game will be part of Kalamazoo Wings Fan Fest 2002 presented by National Pastime Sports. The fans festival will begin at 4 pm and include interactive games, a beer garden, a free concert by the Mega 80's, and a pyro technic show just before the start of the game.
Both Season Tickets and individual game tickets for the upcoming 2002-2003 season of K-Wings hockey are currently on sale by calling the Kalamazoo Wings at (269) 345-5101.
