Richmond Renegades News Release
The Richmond Renegades open the 2002-'03 ECHL season this week with a pair of games in New Jersey. Richmond opens at home Friday, October 18 vs. Charlotte. The âGades play three of their nine October games at home. The âGades wound up the preseason with a 0-3-0 record. ECHL clubs must cut down to their opening night rosters by Wednesday.

Friday, October 11 @ Trenton 7:00 PM
GAME NOTES: First of eight meetings, four at Trenton. âGades were 4-5 vs. the Titans last season, 2-2 at Trenton. Brian Goudie had five points, including a game-winning goal vs. the Titans last season. Bill Armstrong is the Titans fourth head coach in four years. Titans looking for their third straight 100-plus point season.
Saturday, October 12 @ Atlantic City 7:00 PM
GAME NOTES: First of eight meetings, four at Atlantic City. âGades were 5-2-1 vs. the Bullies last season, 1-2-1 at Boardwalk Hall. Bullies beat the âGades 4-1 in a preseason game last Saturday. Lars Pettersen had 12 points vs. the Bullies last season. Atlantic City advanced to the Northern Conference Finals last season.

Wednesday, October 2 vs. vs. Roanoke @ SkateNation Plus LOSS 7-2
GAME NOTES: The Express jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period and led 6-0 in the third before the âGades got on the board. Roanoke coasted despite the âGades enjoying a 31-21 advantage in shots. Adam Coligiacomo scored twice for the Express. Jamie Herrington and Justin Kaput scored for Richmond.
Thursday, October 3 @ Roanoke LOSS 6-1
GAME NOTES: The Express scored five straight goals to blow open a game that was tied at one in the middle of the second period. Shawn Limpright scored twice for the Express. Rick Kowalsky added three assists. Justin Van Parys scored the âGades lone goal. Again the âGades outshot the Express 35-28.
Saturday, October 5 vs. Atlantic City @ Vineland, NJ LOSS 4-1
GAME NOTES: Bullies rookie Jade Galbraith scored a shorthanded goal in the first period and Scott Matzka scored the first of his two goals on a power play in the third period to give Atlantic City a 2-0 lead. Justin Kaput scored on a power play to make it 2-1 but the Bullies added a power play goal and an empty netter. The âGades were outshot (40-22) for the first time. Dan Lombard made 36 saves in his âGades debut.
âGADES NOTES: Richmond now has 18 players in camp (two goalies, seven defensemen, and nine forwards. The âGades waived forward Peter Ward and defenseman Dave LoPresti prior to their trip to face Atlantic City. Following the conclusion of the preseason Richmond released forwards Justin Kaput and J.R. Jarelle and goalies Ryan Honick and Bobby Dillon. Richmond received goalie Dan Lombard from Portland just prior to Saturday's game vs. the Bullies. Following that game the âGades added defenseman Kerry Ellis-Toddington (Vancouver camp), goalie Marc Magliarditi (Cleveland camp), forward Leon Hayward (Manchester camp), and defenseman Rich Spiller (Providence camp). Six players under contract to the âGades remain in AHL camps: Brad Church and Russ Bartlett (Cleveland), Shawn Mamane and Brad Parsons (Portland), Jayme Filipowicz (Chicago), and Peter Hogan (Utah). Hogan has signed a 25 game tryout deal with Utah. Four members of last season's Richmond club played in NHL preseason games: Graham Mink (one assist, two PIM in two games with Washington), Krys Barch (no points, five PIM in two games with the Caps), Rastislav Stana (one game, no goals against, 11 saves with the Caps), and Mike Siklenka (three games, no points or PIM's with Philadelphia). Six players from last season's âGades club (Hogan, Stana, Siklenka, Barch, Mink, and Nate Forster) will likely open the season in the AHL. Ten of Richmond's first 13 games are on the road. Gord Dineen is the sixth coach in Renegades history. Of the 18 players now on the roster 10 began the season in NHL/AHL camps. Once again this season the âGades will be affiliated with Washington and San Jose in the NHL and Portland and Cleveland in the AHL.
