Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA- Prior to this Saturday night's Johnstown Chiefs home opener versus the Toledo Storm, a special ceremony will be held at center ice in honor of the Quecreek coal miners. Game time is at 7:30 p.m.

From July 24-27, nine miners of the Black Wolf Coal Mining Company were trapped more than 200 feet underground. The heroic rescue gained international attention as these brave men overcame the harsh elements of the cold, flooded and dark Quecreek coal mine for three and a half days. The mine was located approximately 25 miles south of Johnstown.

In addition to several of the nine trapped miners, some of the other members of the mining crew that escaped the accident will also be in attendance Saturday night.

The Chiefs open up the 2002-2003 campaign this Friday night at Dayton. The home opener will be Saturday night against the Toledo Storm at 7:30 p.m. The first 2,000 people through the gate will receive a CTC Johnstown Chiefs magnetic schedule. Season tickets are still available by calling 1-800-SLAPSHOT.
