Akron RubberDucks News Release

The Aeros made a few more roster moves today as CA Damaso Espino was transferred to Class AAA Columbus and CA Juan Apodaca was acquired from the Boston Red Sox organization and activated.

Espino was Akron's everyday catcher for the majority of the season thus far and today becomes the 16th player promoted from the Aeros to the Clippers in 2010. He batted .250 in 59 games played for the Aeros and was 34-25 as a starter after posting a .200 batting average in nine games played earlier this season in Columbus. He was transferred back to Double-A on May 4th where he spent the majority of last year as well, including being the catcher for Jeanmar Gomez's perfect game on May 21st, 2009 in Trenton. The 27-year-old native of Los Santos, Panama joins his cousin Paolo Espino, who was promoted Tuesday, on the active Columbus roster. The Indians organization acquired Espino via a mid-season trade in 2008 with the Kansas City Royals.

Apodaca was part of today's trade where Cleveland also acquired former Aero Argenis Reyes from the Boston Red Sox for cash considerations. The 24-year-old catcher Apodaca was previously on the disabled list for Class AAA Pawtucket in the International League and played at Canal Park last month as a member of the Portland Sea Dogs. In 55 games combined this season, the native of Caracas, VZ had a .239 batting average with three home runs and 12 RBI and he last appeared in a game on July 19th. The Red Sox acquired Apodaca in a trade in December 2007 from the Cincinnati Reds and he was originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as a non-drafted free agent in 2003.

Additionally, RHP Anthony Reyes was recalled off his rehab assignment by the Cleveland Indians. Reyes was 0-1 with a 17.36 ERA in two rehab starts for the Aeros over the past two weeks following June 2009 Tommy John reconstructive right elbow surgery.

The Aeros roster remains at the full 24 men and Apodaca will wear #10 when he makes his Cleveland Indians organizational debut.
