Coronado Rips Three Hits, B-Mets Swept by Senators 7-1

Jose Coronado smashed a first-inning leadoff homer and followed it up with two more hits for a season-high, three-hit night, but Binghamton fell 7-1 to Harrisburg and was swept in the three-game set at NYSEG Stadium Thursday night.

Harrisburg (59-53) captured the lead in the first when Josh Johnson teed off on a Chris Schwinden 2-1 fastball, sending it out of the yard to right-center. It was Johnson's third homer of the season and made it 1-0.

Binghamton (54-58) evened the score in the home half of the frame when Jose Coronado stroked an 0-1 fastball from left-hander Tom Milone out to left leading off the inning. Coronado has now smashed a career-high six homers during the 2010 season.

However, Milone would shut the game down from there. The lefty struck out 12 men over 6 1/3 innings and held the B-Mets to just seven hits in picking up his eighth win of the season.

The Senators took the lead for good in the third. With one on and one out, Marvin Lowrance doubled to deep center, putting two men in scoring position for Chris Marrerro. Marrero proceeded to smack a bloop single to right-center, plating Johnson, vaulting Harrisburg into a 2-1 lead. Jesus Valdez added another run with a single to advance the lead to 3-1.

Valdez knocked Schwinden out of the game in the fifth with an RBI double after Marrero led off the frame with a single, pushing the Senators' lead to 4-1. Schwinden was charged with the loss after allowing five runs on a season-high 10 hits over four-plus innings. Ofilio Castro topped off the inning with an RBI double off reliever Eddie Kunz, creating a four-run margin.

Harrisburg would add single runs in the sixth and the ninth to create the 7-1 final score.

Milone combined with three other relievers to strike out a season-best 17 men, the highest total reached against the B-Mets offense.

Sean Ratliff joined Coronado with a three-hit day and Luke Montz added two hits in his first game with Binghamton since May 4.

Binghamton hits the road for a three-game set at Trenton Friday at 7:05 PM. LHP Robert Carson (0-4, 9.61) gets the call against RHP Andrew Brackman (2-6, 4.40) of Trenton. The radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:50 PM with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
