Sens Sweep B-Mets
August 5, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release
Josh Johnson and Jesus Valdez each collected three hits, two runs driven in, and two runs scored on Thursday night, as the Harrisburg Senators defeated the Binghamton Mets at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, by a final score of 7-1. The win gave the Senators (59-53) their second straight series sweep, and their seventh consecutive victory.
Johnson gave the Senators the first lead in the ballgame in the first inning, when he blasted a solo homer off of B-Met starter Chris Schwinden. But the Mets' Jose Coronado led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run of his own, and the game was tied at one.
From then on, the Senators did all the scoring. The third saw Chris Marrero drive in Johnson with a single, and Valdez single in Marvin Lowrance, and the Senators had a 3-1 lead through three. Two more runs came across in the fifth, when Valdez doubled home Marrero, and Ofilio Castro doubled in Valdez. Johnson picked up his second RBI in the sixth, when he drove in Brad Coon with a single that made it 6-1. And in the ninth, Valdez scored on a fielding error by Coronado to complete the scoring.
All-Star starter Tom Milone turned in another excellent performance for the Sens, hurling six and a third innings and allowing just one run, while striking out twelve. He picked up the win, and is now 8-5. Schwinden (4-7) gave up ten hits and give runs in four innings, and took the loss for Binghamton. The B-Mets are now 54-58 after the defeat.
Castro joined Johnson and Valdez with three hits in the ballgame, and also drove in a run for the Sens in the victory. Lowrance and Marrero each had two hits, while Coon, Devin Ivany and Tim Pahuta each had one hit. The home run for Johnson was his third of the season, and second in the past week.
Fresh off their second straight series sweep, the Senators now return home for six games in seven days. The homestand begins on Friday night against the Altoona Curve, which came into Thursday's action leading the Western Division of the Eastern League with a 64-46 record. Right-hander Ryan Tatusko, acquired last weekend in a trade with the Texas Rangers organization, is scheduled to make his first Eastern League start on Friday night. The first pitch is slated for 7 PM, and fans can listen to all the action on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com, beginning at 6:45.
