D'Agostini Stands Tall as Rush Edge Beast in Shootout

November 5, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Brampton Beast News Release

RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA - Brampton Beast netminder Andrew D'Agostini turned in the best goaltending performance of the young 2017-18 season and made 18 saves plus an additional seven in the shootout but the Rapid City Rush managed to outlast the Beast 3-2 in a shootout on Friday night.

Matt Petgrave scored for the fourth straight game for Brampton and Corey Durocher picked up his second tally of the season for the Beast, who have now collected points in three straight contests for the first time this season.

For the second straight game, it was the Rush who struck first. Gustav Bouramman and Kenton Miller gave the Rush a quick 2-0 lead not even five minutes into the game.

The Beast quickly settled down and got on the board later in the opening period. Beast captain Brandon Marino collected the puck just inside the blue line and sent a hard slapshot on goal. Petgrave got just enough of the puck to send it off the post and in, cutting the Rapid City lead to 2-1 at 14:19.

Both teams fought hard in a scoreless second period as Brampton continued to apply pressure and outshot the Rush 9-6 in the period.

The Beast continued their tenacious attack into the third period and didn't have to wait long to find the equalizer. Durocher settled a wild puck along the right wing boards and sent a quick low shot on goal that fooled Rush starting goaltender Steve Michalek, tying the game at 2-2 at 1:47.

The remainder of the third period was evenly matched but neither team could find another goal, forcing the game to overtime.

The Beast outshot the Rush 3-1 in the extra frame and owned a 30-21 edge on the shot clock after four periods of hockey.

Both goalies took over in the shootout as no shooter was able to beat D'Agostini or Michalek through the first seven rounds. Rush defenseman Matt Caito beat D'Agostini with a perfect shot to start the eighth round of the shootout and Beast forward Luc Olivier Blain had an opportunity to continue the shootout but was stopped by Michalek, giving the Rush the victory.

NOTES: The Beast finished the game 0-for-7 on the man advantage and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill. The Beast and the Rush will complete their three-game set tomorrow night in Rapid City. Puck drop is scheduled for 9:05 EST.
