Paterson Has Career Night in 4-1 Loss to Monarchs
November 5, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Norfolk Admirals News Release
Norfolk, VA.- Jake Paterson had a career night making 48 saves, but it wasn't enough as the Monarchs pulled away late topping Norfolk 4-1.
Admiral's forward Tommy Schutt notched his first professional goal in the first period, the fourth time the Admirals have scored first this season. Brady Vail notched an assist on the goal and now has a point in each of his last three games (4g, 1a).
Norfolk reversed the script jumping out to an early lead courtesy of Tommy Schutt. The forward broke into the offensive zone on the left wing side and snapped a shot low past the blocker of Evan Cowley only 0:36 into regulation, giving the Admirals the 1-0 lead. Norfolk thought they had doubled the lead on the man-advantage shortly after. It was ruled however that the puck had been batted in with a hand, negating the goal. After the first twenty minutes the Admirals were holding onto a 1-0 lead.
In the second period it was a Manchester power play that evened things up late in the frame. Jake Paterson made the first two saves, but was unable to kick out the left pad to make a third as Marcinew slipped the puck past Paterson to tie the game at 1-1.
The Monarchs would mount an attack in the third, peppering Paterson with 26 shots. Manchester would tack on three more goals, allowing them to take a 4-1 victory at the final buzzer. Just over a minute and a half in Marcinew notched his second of the night, what would be the eventual game winner. In the later half of the period Tony Cameranesi and Kevin Morris would cap off the scoring with each players' third goal of the season.
Jake Paterson's 48 saves was a career high. The Mississauga, Ontario native stopped 48 of 52 shots faced. Manchester's Evan Cowley picked up his first victory of the season, stopping 26 of 27 shots.
Norfolk and Manchester will wrap up the three-game series tomorrow night at the Scope.
