Quad City Mallards News Release

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Jason Binkley scored and piled up three assists and Marc-Olivier Roy, Daniel Maggio and Garrett Thompson scored two goals apiece as the host Fort Wayne Komets (3-2-1) rolled past the Quad City Mallards (4-4-0) 7-1 Saturday night.

Binkley's blast from the right point gave Fort Wayne a 1-0 lead at 1:46 of the opening period and kicked off an explosive stretch of three goals in one minute and 45 seconds. The Mallards' Sam Warning tied the game from the side of the net just 23 seconds later, but a mere minute and 22 seconds after the equalizer, Thompson tipped in the first of six straight Fort Wayne goals.

The Komets pushed their lead out to 4-1 with two more goals late in the first. Maggio one timed Fort Wayne's third from the left wing circle at 14:51. At 17:23 Roy pounced on a rebound to score number four.

Roy and Maggio both struck again in the second period. Roy made it 5-1 from the slot at 9:40. With that goal Alex Sakellaropoulos replaced Mallards starting goaltender Ivan Kulbakov. 100 seconds after the arrival of Sakellaropoulos, Maggio scored the sixth Fort Wayne goal from point blank range.

Thompson capped off the Komet victory with a breakaway power play goal at 4:58 of third period.
