Notable four periods
Ryan Penny leads the Royals with four goals and all came in a four-period span. Penny recorded his first pro hat trick last Sunday against Adirondack and scored in the first period Friday at Worcester. Prior to the Sunday trick, Penny had last recorded a hat trick with Moncton in the QMJHL during the 2013-14 season.
Point streaks continue
Mark Naclerio is on a four-game point streak after scoring his second goal of the season Friday against the Nailers. Over the course of the four games, Naclerio has two goals and five points. The second-year forward whacked the puck in from the left slot in the third period to push Reading within two against Worcester.
Naclerio is a 6-foot-2, 185-lb. center from Milford, Connecticut. In 40 games last season, he scored 33 points (14 goals) for the Atlanta Gladiators.
The Royals' Alex Krushelnyski has five points over his last three games (2g, 3a) after assisting on the Naclerio strike. Krushelnyski is a fourth-year professional and his father, Mike, won three Stanley Cups with Edmonton Oilers.
Best five-game start... denied
The Royals' regulation loss against Worcester Friday denied the club's chance at its best five-game start in team history. In 2005-06, the Royals started the season 4-0-1-0 (9 points). That same season, the Royals got off to their best ten-game start (7-2-1-0).
Power play begins to buzz
The Royals went 2-for-3 on the power play Friday against Worcester, giving Reading five man-up goals over the last t hree games (5-for-13, 38.4%).
Reading started the season 0-for-7 on the power play. Ryan Penny and Mark Naclerio chipped in with man-up goals Friday, joining Nolan Zajac, Chris McCarthy and Derek Whitmore with power-play tallies.
The Royals killed off two Worcester power-play chances Friday after allowing a pair of man-up goals Sunday against Adirondack.
Last Time Out
Despite a pair of power-play goals, the Royals failed to take the lead and fell, 4-2, Friday against Worcester. Ryan Penny and Mark Naclerio scored on the man up. The Royals allowed three straight goals, including a pair in a two-minute span during the second.
Mark Dekanich made 24 saves. Eamon McAdam won with 33 denials.
