Worcester, MA - The Reading Royals, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, scored late in the third period but failed to tie, dropping, 2-1, Saturday at the DCU Center.

Nolan Zajac cut Worcester's lead to one with 4:03 left, briefly sparking Reading. Chase Golightly assisted. The Royals flung nine shots on goal in the third and had a few net-front scrambles, but Mitch Gillam made 26 saves for the win.

Gillam outlasted John Muse (loss, 27 saves). Muse has allowed two or fewer goals twice this season.

Box Score

Former Royals forward Barry Almeida scored the first goal at 4:06 of the first, deflecting a shot from the deep slot by Pat McNally. Matt Lane had the second assist. Woody Hudson made it 2-0 Worcester with a right-wing wrist shot that beat Muse with eight minutes left in the third.

Royals man up was 0-for-4. Reading killed off two Worcester power plays.

The Royals play for the third straight day at the Railers Sunday at 3:05 p.m. Reading is at South Carolina on Tues., Nov. 7 and Wed., Nov. 8 for 7:05 p.m. puck drops.

Reading sits at 4-2-0-0, good for 8 points and 5th in the North Division.
