July 2, 2014 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Soo Greyhounds News Release
With the 43rd overall pick in today's CHL Import Draft, the Soo Greyhounds selected GUSTAV BOURAMMAN from Stockholm, Sweden.
(the Hounds were originally scheduled to pick 49th, but 6 CHL clubs opted to "PASS" on their pick prior to the Greyhounds selection)
"We are very pleased to have a chance to select Gustav today in the Import Draft and welcome he and his family to Sault Ste. Marie" began Greyhounds GM Kyle Dubas.
"Gustav is a right shot defenceman who has very good mobility and most importantly possesses great instincts and ability with the hockey puck" he continued.
The 17-year old defenceman played the 2013-14 season with Lulea Sweden J20 Elite where he had 1 goal and 3 assists in 16 games played.
He also spent time with the Lulea J18 team of both the J18 Elit (6g, 4a, 20 pts) and J18 Allsvenskan (2g, 3a, 5 pts) leagues.
He stands 6.00 while weighing 174 lbs.
In International competition, Bouramman represented his home country this past December/January at the 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge where he had 1 assists in 5 games played.
"We felt it was important for us to address a need on the right side of our defence with a player who fits the way our team plays very well and we look forward to helping Gustav first adapt to Canada, academically and on the ice, and then maximizing his development as an athlete" concluded Dubas.
From the Lulea Hockey Website (translated using Google Translate):
"Gustav Bouramman is a great talent and can be likened to an Erik Karlsson copy with incredible offensive qualities. H e has also done a really good autumn and a place in the J20 squad "
NOTES:
* Assistant Captain Team Sweden U17
* Named to Team Sweden U18 that will participate in Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament this August.
* With 1.82 points per game, was 2nd overall in defence production at J18 Elite Level before being promoted to SuperElit Legue.
