Erie Otters General Manager and Governor Sherry Bassin announced that the team has selected Swedish forward Anton Karlsson with its first round pick in the 2014 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.

Karlsson, a 6'2", 194 pound forward, recorded 12 goals and 22 points with Frolunda of the Swedish SuperElit league. He was selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the third round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

"We are confident he would enjoy the environment with the chance to play with our special players," Sherry Bassin said. "This would be great for his development for a long successful NHL career."

The 17-year-old also suited up for Sweden in five games at the World Junior Championships this past year.

"He's a high character player and we always believe in these types of players," said Bassin of Karlsson.

The Otters will use their second round pick later in the CHL Import Draft.
