D.C. United have announced that midfielder Ulises Segura has been traded to Austin FC in exchange for $150,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) in 2021 during the half-day trade window by Major League Soccer (MLS).
"We want to thank Ulises for his service and commitment to the club since his arrival from Costa Rica in 2017," Dave Kasper, D.C. United General Manager and VP of Soccer Operations, said. "Ulises consistently made an impact on the field and was a part of some memorable moments in D.C. United history, including playing in the inaugural season at Audi Field in 2018. We wish him all the best with Austin FC and in the next chapter of his career."
Segura was acquired by the Black-and-Red from Deportivo Saprissa in Costa Rica on Dec. 21, 2017. The Costa Rican National Team midfielder made his debut for D.C. Segura scored his first goal for the club April 14, 2018 in a 1-0 win against Columbus Crew SC. Segura recorded his first assist on Aug. 15, 2018 in a 4-1 win against the Portland Timbers at Audi Field.
The midfielder has represented Costa Rica in 10 international matches since making his debut for Los Ticos on Jan. 15, 2017. During his three seasons with D.C. United, Segura made four appearances for Costa Rica, with his last appearance coming in the 1-0 loss against the U.S. Men's National Team on Feb. 1, 2020.
