
Czuy Nets Overtime Game Winning Goal, Curry Stands Tall In Wranglers Win

Fresno, CA - The Las Vegas Wranglers (1-0-0, 2 points) defeated the Fresno Falcons (0-0-1, 1 point) 2-1 in overtime at the Save Mart Center on Friday night. Forward Kelly Czuy slipped a backhand shot between the legs of Fresno goalie Kris Mayotte with 1:28 remaining in overtime for the victory. Rookie goalie John Curry made a strong debut, stopping 33 Fresno shots for the win. Las Vegas defenseman Aaron Power scored a goal and assisted on the game winner. Fellow defenseman Jason Jozsa assisted on both goals. The Wranglers will host the Stockton Thunder for Opening Night on Sunday at 7:05 pm at the Orleans Arena.
After a scoreless first period, both teams got on the board in the second period. Las Vegas struck first as Aaron Power fired his first goal of the season past Fresno goalie Kris Mayotte at 13:12 for the 1-0 lead. Fresno countered by scoring on their seventh power play of the night. Forward Oren Eizenman rifled a shot from the high-slot to tie the game at one. The Falcons tied the game just two minutes after the Wranglers took the lead.
The two teams battled through a scoreless third period, forcing overtime. Las Vegas took advantage of back-to-back Fresno penalties. Winger Kelly Czuy carried the puck to the net from the right-wing circle, slipping a backhand shot five-hole on Mayotte for the 2-1 win with 1:28 left in the extra frame.
Las Vegas will host Stockton for Opening Night on Sunday, October 21st. The two teams will meet again on Tuesday, October 23rd at 7:05 pm.
