Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Devils fell short in their comeback effort against the Elmira Jackals, falling 4-2 in front of 2,766 on Saturday night at the Sovereign Bank Arena.

In this contest, Trenton saw the script flipped on them from the previous night against the Rading Royals. This time it was Devils falling behind early and battling to tie the score, only to see a third-period power play goal prove to be the difference.

Trailing 2-0 in the second period, Joe Rooney and Brad Mills cycled the puck out of the corner to a wide-open Eric Castonguay, who fired home his first professional goal with 1:22 left until the intermission.

Rooney's second in as many games helped Trenton tie it up early in final frame. With the Devils on the man-advantage, Rooney was left alone on the far post and was able to bat home a rebound past former Trenton goalie Joel Martin at the 3:31 mark.

The Jackals answered back on the power play with 5:05 remaining as Bobby Robins' bad-angle shot from the goal line somehow snuck between goaltender Jason Smith and the near post. Scott May scored an empty-netter with one second left to seal the win.

Kevin Ulanski drew first blood for Elmira mid-way through the first before Faubert added a 5-on-3 power play goal later in the period.

Smith suffered the loss in his professional debut, turning away 25-of-28 shots, while Martin stymied his old squad with 21 saves.

The Devils' special teams went 1-for-4 on the power play and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.

The Trenton Devils finish the weekend against the Johnstown Chiefs on Sunday, October 21 at 4:00pm. Go online to www.trentondevils.com and listen or watch live courtesy of B2 Networks.
