Blades make it two straight to open th e season after 4-1 win

ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades opened their 10th Anniversary season with a pair of wins over the Mississippi Sea Wolves after a 4-1 victory on Saturday night at Germain Arena in front of a crowd of 7,104.

Just as they did on Friday night, the Everblades opened the scoring on a first period goal by Mathieu Melanson on the power play. Melanson's third goal of the season came from the slot and clanked off the cross bar and into the net at 6:43 of the opening period. J.D. Forrest and Brandon Roach assisted on the game's first goal.

The Everblades carried the 1-0 lead into the second period where they quickly opened a two goal advantage. Rookie Kyle McAllister notched the eventual game winning goal for the second straight night early in the second stanza. McAllister's second goal of the season came off a rebound from an Ernie Hartlieb shot, which he tucked past Mississippi goaltender Morgan Cey at 3:03. Brad Herauf tallied the second assist on the goal.

The Sea Wolves responded quickly however trimming the Everblades lead back to one when Pat Oliveto jammed in a loose puck at the front of the net past a sprawling Everblades goaltender Justin Peters at 4:50. Shortly after, the Everblades regained their two-goal lead when Derek Damon cashed in on the power play when the Sea Wolves got caught in a line change. Damon broke down the right side of the ice and lifted a back-hander over the glove of Cey. J.B. Bittner and Peters assisted on the goal.

The Everblades with-stood strong pressure from Mississippi in the third period as Peters came up with several big saves, then Florida closed out the scoring in the third period when Brad Zancanaro notched the Everblades' third power play goal of the night with 1:33 remaining in regulation. Damon and Roach collected the helpers on Zancanaro's second goal of the season.

Peters played strong in net once again raising his record to 2-0-0 after stopping 27 of 28 shots faced. Cey fell to 0-2-0 on the season after allowing four goals on 26 Everblades shots.

On the power play, the Everblades converted finished strong going 3-for-9, while the Sea Wolves finished the night 0-for-7.
