Falcons Fall to Wranglers in OT

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to the Las Vegas Wranglers in the season opener on Friday in front of 7,465 fans at Save Mart Center.

The two teams skated to a scoreless first period with Fresno out-shooting Las Vegas by a 14-9 margin.

Las Vegas dented the scoreboard first 13:12 into the second period. Chris Ferraro fed the puck to Aaron Power skating into the Fresno zone, and the Wranglers' defenseman one-timed a shot past Fresno goaltender Kris Mayotte to give Las Vegas a 1-0 lead.

Fresno came back to tie with a power-play goal less than two minutes later. Oren Eizenman gathered in the puck just inside the right-wing circle, and blasted a shot past John Curry for his first professional goal of at 15:08.

The game remained tied through the third period into overtime. In the extra session, Kelly Czuy got free down the right-wing side, and snuck a shot past Mayotte on the near post to give Las Vegas the win.

Fresno's penalty-kill unit was busy, killing off 9 of 10 Las Vegas power-play opportunities.

Mayotte made 30 saves in taking the overtime loss.

The Falcons hit the road for the first time this season on Saturday, traveling to Bakersfield for a 7:00 p.m. face-off against the Condors. Catch all of the action on 790 ESPN Radio, The Deuce, starting with the Port of Subs Pre-Game Show at 6:45.

Fresno returns home on Tuesday, hosting the Alaska Aces at 7:00 p.m. on a Carl's Jr. Two-for-Tuesday. Fans can visit any area Carl's Jr. location and pick up a voucher allowing them to receive one ticket for free with the purchase of a ticket.
