CINCINNATI - The Cincinnati Cyclones used a pair of first period goals less than 90 seconds apart to hold onto a 2-1 win over Kalamazoo on Wednesday night. The Cyclones have won three straight games against the North Division leaders. Robert Mayer turned aside 24 shots in the triumph.

Cincinnati raced to a 2-0 first period lead. Mike McLean collected his first goal at 4:32 of the opening frame, firing a shot from the left wing side past the blocker of Kalamazoo netminder Ryan Nie. Brett Motherwell and Ryan Del Monte had the assists on the score-which began as a two-on-one break into the Cincinnati zone. The Cyclones next goal came after allowing a three-on-one break into their zone. Dustin Sproat and Matt Pierce worked the puck ahead for Brett Robinson, who blasted a shot from the left wing side over the glove of Nie for his fifth score of the year and his fifth straight game with a point. The shots in the period were even at nine apiece.

The second period did not have any scoring and the best chance may have come late in the period when former Cyclones Sam Ftorek blasted a shot off the goalpost while the Wings were shorthanded. Each team had two power play chances in the period and the shots favored Cincinnati, 6-3. The three shots tied the Cyclones season-low for shots allowed in a period.

Kalamazoo scored the lone goal of the third period when Travis Granbois netted his second score of the season from the left side at 13:10. The Wings won the shots battle, 13-4, in the frame and claimed the mantel for the game at 25-19.

Robert Mayer picked up his fifth win of the season with a 24 save performance. Ryan Nie took the loss for Kalamazoo, stopping 17 of the 19 shots he faced. He drops to 6-2-1 on the year. Each team went zero-for-five on the power play.

Cincinnati is now 11-8-1, while Kalamazoo is 12-6-1. All three Wings losses in regulation time have been at Cincinnati.
