Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

COMING UP: The Cincinnati Cyclones, the 2008 Kelly Cup champions, take the show on the road for a pair of games this week against North Division competition. Friday night (Oct. 31), the squad is in Reading to battle the 'AA' affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 7pm tilt. Saturday night (Nov. 1), the squad is at Dayton for a 7:30pm clash. Both games will be carried on MAX-FM (97.7 and 99.5), as well as on the club's website: www.cycloneshockey.com. Air time is 15 minutes before faceoff each night.

THAT'S ROUGH: The Cyclones will travel 530 miles overnight, after the game at Reading. The club will get into Cincinnati around 7am Saturday and then make the 134 mile round-trip to Dayton for Saturday night's game. It is the most miles any team in the ECHL will have to travel overnight for a game in conseuctive nights this season. It is the second straight season that the Cyclones have made the trip and also held this distinction.

WEEK IN REVIEW: The Cyclones dropped both games last week. Friday (Oct. 24), Wheeling netted four second period and four third period goals in claiming a 9-7 win. Matt Syroczynski registered a hat trick (three goals) in the effort, as Thomas Beauregard collected four points (1-3-4). Saturday (Oct. 25), Cincinnati dropped a 3-1 verdict to Dayton. Syroczynski had the lone Cyclones goal.

CROWDED FOR THE CROWNING: The Cyclones welcomed 5183 to U.S. Bank Arena on Saturday for the home opener. It was the third-largest opening night crowd in club history and the second-biggest since the team moved to Cincinnati. The crowd saw the re-furbished Kelly Cup and watched the four championship banners placed into the ceiling.

BEAUREGARD RINGS THEM UP: Cyclones forward Thomas Beauregard has points in each of the first four games with three of them being multiple point contests. Beauregard has five goals and five assists for ten points. Thomas ranks second in the league in goals scored and is fourth in points. Last season, he led the club with 31 goals.

MACDONALD COLLECTING NUMBERS TOO: Cyclones defenseman Matt Macdonald is also collecting numbers this season. Macdonald has points in each of the first four games and is second in the ECHL among defensemen in scoring with a goal and four assists for five points. Matt is also third in the ECHL with 28 penalty minutes. Saturday night (Oct. 25), Macdonald moved into third place on the club's career penalty minute list with 227.

ROUGH AND TUMBLE: The Cyclones lead the ECHL with an average of 33.5 penalty minutes per game. Cincinnati leads the circuit with four misconduct penalties and is ninth in major penalties with four.

GET OUT AND SCORE!: The Cyclones lead the ECHL with eight first period goals. Last year, Cincinnati led the league in first stanza goals with 87.

SPEAKING OF SCORING...: The 16 combined goals in the 9-7 loss at Wheeling on Friday night, tied the club record for scoring in a game. On November 29, 1997--the club set the team record for combined scoring in an 11-5 win for Louisville over Huntington. The 16 goals was the most since the squad moved to the Queen City--eclipsing the mark of 15 goals in a 13-2 slaughter of Reading on December 27, 2002.

NEW FACES: Several new faces have joined the Cyclones since opening night. Stephen Werner was recalled by Milwaukee early in the week and Mark Van Guilder has been assigned by the Admirals here. Forward Michael Cohen was signed early in the week and forward Jimmy Kilpatrick was acquired in a trade with Las Vegas late in the week. Defenseman Mark Nesdill was claimed off of waivers yesterday (Oct. 26).

NEXT TIME HOME: The Cyclones return to U.S. Bank Arena a little more than a week from now, hosting four games in five days. Reading comes into town for games November 4-5, while Elmira is in November 7-8. The game November 7 is Faith Night and the game on November 8 is Throwback Night--when the Cyclones players wear Stingers jerseys and selected menu items have their prices rolled back.

FAMILIAR FACES IN FOREIGN PLACES: There are currently 15 former Cyclones playing for other ECHL teams. Ten of these players were on last year's championship team, four are from the 2006-07 version and one is from 2002-03. The list includes: Kyle Bushsee (Johnstown), Max Daigneault (Charlotte), Travis Fuller (Augusta), Greg Gallagher (Johnstown), Jon Gleed (Utah), Erik Johnson (Wheeling), Greg Labenski (Dayton), Gerard Miller (Las Vegas), Rory Rawlyk (Phoenix), Robin Richards (Alaska), James Sixsmith (Utah), Chad Starling (Ontario), Jeremy Swanson (Victoria), Cory Urquhart (Stockton) and Mike Wirll (Mississippi).
