Defenseman Reassigned To Johnstown

Johnstown, Pa. - The Johnstown Chiefs, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche and Columbus Blue Jackets, and the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters and Syracuse Crunch, announced today that Columbus has reassigned defenseman Kyle Wharton to the team from Syracuse.

Wharton, 22, was a second-round draft pick (#59 overall) of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. A left-handed shot, Wharton is listed at 6'3 and 205 pounds, and hails from Ottawa, Ontario.

In the 2007-08 season, Wharton's second as a pro, he split time between the Syracuse Crunch and the Elmira Jackals. In 13 games with Syracuse he scored two goals to go along with one assist and had 29 penalty minutes. Wharton skated in 32 games with the Jackals where he produced four goals, seven assists, and 46 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro he played four seasons in the OHL with Ottawa, Sault Ste. Marie, and Guelph. Wharton skated in 197 games over those four season and compiled 20 goals, 69 assists and 205 penalty minutes.
