Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska's roster continues to swell with a three-game series against Fresno at Sullivan Arena looming this weekend, as forward Tomas Kana and defenseman T.J. Fast have been assigned to the Aces by their NHL affiliate in St. Louis.

Fans are invited to arrive in costume for Friday's series opener against the Falcons on Halloween, with a chance to earn an on-ice invitation and special prizes. In addition, the Imaginarium will be on hand with a number of science-related exhibits for children to see on the dry side expansion area of Sullivan Arena.

Kana played 12 games for Alaska last season, scoring twice, including the first goal in an eventual 5-1 triumph at Fresno in the third game of the 2007-08 campaign. He finished the year as a player in his native Czech Republic. The six-foot, 202-pound Kana, who will turn 21 next month, was originally drafted 31st overall in 2006 by St. Louis with its second-round selection. In five games for Peoria this season, he recorded two minutes in penalties.

The 21-year-old Fast finished fourth among Western Hockey League defensemen last season in points (54) and goals (17) while playing for Tri-City. He spent a year and a half at the University of Denver before returning to junior hockey midway through the 2006-07 campaign. The 6-1, 190-pound native of Calgary made his pro debut for Peoria against Quad City October 12 and had an assist in the game. Fast originally was a second round draft pick (60th overall) of the Los Angeles Kings in 2005.

The Aces (3-1) face a Fresno club that has begun the season 3-0 for the third time in four years. Alaska went 6-2 against one of its oldest rivals (1995) last season and has won the last seven confrontations in Anchorage. Friday and Saturday's contests begin at 7:15 p.m., while Sunday's matinee starts at 5:00 p.m. and features the first Fred Meyer postgame "Skate with the Aces." The first 2,500 fans arriving at Sunday's series finale will receive a "Boomer" coloring book, courtesy of the Department of Public Safety. All three games will be broadcast live on the flagship home of Aces hockey, KFQD 750 AM, with coverage beginning 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
