Dayton Bombers News Release

BOMBERS NOTES

OFF AND WINNING: The Bombers are on a three-game winning streak to open the season! Following the 5-4 overtime victory on Opening Night, the Bombers defeated the Johnstown Chiefs and Cincinnati Cyclones last week to move into second place in the North Division. The Bombers trail the first place Wheeling Nailers by three points.

WHAT PARTY POOPERS: The Bombers were on a mission to spoil the Cyclones Kelly Cup banner raising celebration on Saturday night, and boy did they succeed. Although the Cyclones netted the first goal of the game from Matt Syroczynski on a 5-on-3 opportunity, the Bombers answered back when Dan Riedel evened the score on the power play, assisted by Jim Henkemeyer and Justin Bowers. Bowers would continue the Bombers offensive output as he scored the go-ahead goal in the third period from Christian Gaudet. Later in the frame Riedel would pick up his second power play goal of the night from Joe Van Culin and Jarret Lukin. Goalie David Shantz, starting in his second straight game, was 24 of 25 to earn the "W". The Bombers were 2 of 10 with the man advantage and 7 of 8 on the penalty kill.

SHUTTING THE CHIEFS DOWN: In their first road game of the season the Bombers came out on top, beating the Johnstown Chiefs 1-0 on Friday night. The Bombers would need just 3 minutes of playing time to all but lock up a victory as Dan Riedel scored on the Bombers second power opportunity of the game from Ryan Smyth and Jarret Lukin. While the Chiefs had 13 power play opportunities on the night, goalie David Shantz, contracted to the NHL's Florida Panthers, was superb in goal, saving all 23 shots that came his way to earn his first shutout of the season.

HOLY GOALIE: The Bombers went 2-0-0 last weekend thanks in part to a tremendous goaltending effort by David Shantz. Selected in the 2nd round (#37 overall) by the NHL's Florida Panthers in the 2004 Entry Draft, Shantz has a 0.50 goals against average and .979 save percentage. He also picked up the ECHL's first shutout of the season on Friday night in Johnstown.

WELCOME ABOARD: Newly acquired forward Justin Bowers has made his presence known in Dayton. The Nova Scotia native came to Dayton on a trade with the Florida Everblades, but it will be the Cincinnati Cyclones who won't be able to forget him. Bowers had a goal (the eventual game winner) and an assist against the Cyclones on Saturday night. It was Bowers' first professional multi-point game.

SPECIAL TEAMS ROCKS: Now three games into the season the Bombers are 6 of 25 (24.0%) on the power play, currently ranking 5th in the league. Dayton is also 25 of 28 (89.3%) on the penalty kill.

LET'S GO STREAKING: The following Bombers players are on goal, assist or point streaks:

Dan Riedel: 3-game goal streak

Jarret Lukin: 3-game assist streak
