Friday, October 24 vs. Charlotte, 5-2 W

BILOXI, MS - The Mississippi Sea Wolves' power play put a charge into the team's offense, notching two goals as the Pack improved to 2-1-0 on the season with a 5-2 win in the 2008-09 home opener over the Charlotte Checkers.

Mississippi's early season power-play trouble looked to be corrected as Mike Wirll connected a pass from behind the goal line with an open Ryan Cruthers in the low slot for a power play goal at 3:55 of the first frame.

Joe Barnes got Charlotte on the boards when he came down the right wing and tucked the puck through Ryan Munce's pads at 9:28.

Travis Lisabeth inched closer to the Sea Wolves all-time lead in goals when he took a feed in the slot from Kyle McAllister, drew Charlotte goaltender Maxime Daigneault to the ice and beat him over the blocker at 9:51 of the first period.

Jeff Miles, who joined the Checkers after playing for Columbia last season, pulled Charlotte even when he beat Ryan Munce up high at 8:09 of the second.

The Pack regained the lead when Kyle McAllister potted his second power play goal of the season, breaking out of the right wing corner and stuffing the puck past Daigneault at 18:21 of the second period. The Sea Wolves extended the lead in the third period when Alex Parent tipped a Michael Couch shot from the left point past the Charlotte netminder for his second of the season at 14:59 of the third period. Chase Trull would seal the victory with an empty-net goal at 19:08 of the third period.

Mississippi was 2-for-8 on the power play and Ryan Munce made 40 saves to earn the win.

Saturday, October 25 vs. Charlotte, 4-5 OTL

BILOXI, MS - The Charlotte Checkers were able to pull out an overtime win by the score of 5-4 over the Mississippi Sea Wolves in a wild contest at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Saturday evening.

After a scoreless first period that featured a lot of end to end action, Mark Rooneem broke in alone on Charlotte goaltender Jeff Jakaitis and made a move to the backhand to score just 21 seconds into the second period to give the Sea Wolves a 1-0 lead. Ryan Cruthers scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season on a one-timer from the low slot that beat Jakaitis through the legs at 4:51 of period two to give Mississippi a 2-0 lead.

After being hauled down on a breakaway by the Pack's Kyle McAllister, Charlotte's Matthew Ford scored on his penalty shot to get the Checkers on the board at 14:58 of the second period.

For only the second time in team history, two penalty shots were awarded in a game as Kyle McAllister converted on his penalty shot, tucking the puck past Jakaitis' right goal pad at 18:16.

Charlotte would even the score at three apiece as Andres Jamtin scored his first of the year shorthanded at 2:19 of the third period. Mathieu Melanson bounced a wrister off of the arm of Jakaitis and into the net for his third goal of the year to give the Sea Wolves a 4-3 lead at 15:45 of the third, but Mike Bayrack was able to notch a goal with an extra attacker on for the Checkers, launching a wrister through a screen and past Mississippi goaltender Jeremy Duchesne 19:36 of the third period.

Tomas Zaborsky walked out from behind the Sea Wolves net and fed the puck to Mike Taylor waiting at the left post for the overtime winner 55 seconds into the extra session.

Jeremy Duchesne made 37 saves in 60:55 of work to earn a no-decision, and the Sea Wolves were 0-for-5 on the power play.

Sunday, October 26 vs. Charlotte, 2-5 L

BILOXI, MS - The Charlotte Checkers came from behind for the second consecutive evening to defeat the Mississippi Sea Wolves by a score of 3-2 at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on Sunday.

Charlotte got on the board just 1:36 into the first period when Matthew Ford fired the puck past Mississippi's Ryan Munce with an extra attacker on during a delayed penalty.

Travis Lisabeth tied the game at one when he redirected Mathieu Melanson's shot past Checkers netminder Jeff Jakaitis for his 99th goal as a Sea Wolf. Mike Wirll gave the Sea Wolves a 2-1 lead when he hammered home a cross-ice feed from Chris Zarb on the power play at 18:16 of the first.

The Checkers clawed back into the game when Matthew Ford found himself alone in front of the net and beat Munce high on the short side for his second of the game, a power play goal at 8:44 of the second period.

Mike Taylor cemented the Charlotte victory when he banged the rebound of Ford's shot past Munce at 2:34 of the third period.

Munce made 29 saves on 32 shots and Mississippi was 1-for-8 on the power play.
