TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After enjoying a 4-1, series-opening win on Wednesday, the Cyclones resume this three game set against the Stingrays in North Charleston. With the victory, the 'Clones have now taken three of the four regular season meetings and have outscored South Carolina by a combined total of 15-6. Cincinnati is one of just five teams to have a winning record against the 'Rays this season. After a 2-1 Elmira win over Gwinnett last night, the Cyclones sit just two points behind the Gladiators for the eighth and final playoff spot.

SCOUTING THE STINGRAYS: South Carolina finds itself on a three game losing streak and have slipped into fourth place in the Eastern Conference playoff race. In fact, with standings as close as they are, the Stingrays are just five points ahead of sixth-place Wheeling and Elmira. South Carolina owns the league's fourth-best team defense, allowing an average of just 2.84 goals per-game and just over 29 shots per-game. With Rob Ricci and Josh Godfrey still in the American Hockey League, Tommy Goebel remains the 'Rays leading scorer - posting 43 points (15 goals, 28 assists) in 50 games. Yesterday afternoon, the Hershey Bears recalled goaltender Jared DeMichiel which leaves Shane Owen to tend the pipes once again for the Stingrays tonight. This year, Owen has earned a 7-5-1-1 record with a 2.74 goals-against average.

Southern Comfort Resumes: The Cyclones have found their best success against the South Division this season...posting a 10-3-1 mark collectively in 2010-11. Although a small sample size, the special teams have been very solid against the 'Rays as well; through three games, they've capitalized on 8 out of 20 power plays while killing off 9 of 11 penalties.

A Reunion of Sorts: This week's series with South Carolina will mark the first time that Dan Eves, Samson Mahbod, and Jake Hauswirth have faced their former club. Since joining the 'Clones, all three have made immediate impacts. Eves has registered a point in eight of his last nine games while Mahbod has six points in the same stretch. While he's only registered one assist in a Cincinnati jersey, Hauswirth has been a physical presence on the ice every single night. All three picked up points on Wednesday's series opener.

Rookie Pride: With several call-ups and injuries on the Cincinnati blue-line, first-year defenseman Garret Suter has been thrust into the action; and he has delivered. Not only is he shutting down his opponents, but he has also posted points in back-to-back games (2 assists).

An Eye on the East: As of today, here is a quick snapshot of how the Eastern Conference playoff race shapes up:

6 - Elmira 65 points

7 - Wheeling 65 points

8 - Gwinnett 63 points

9 - Toledo 61 points*

10 - Cincinnati 61 points*

*The Toledo Walleye own the first tie-breaker against Cincinnati.
