
Wranglers Thrash Reign, 7-4

Las Vegas, Nev- The Las Vegas Wranglers® defeated the Ontario Reign Friday Night at Citizens Business Bank Arena in front of 6,744. Blair Riley led the way for the Wranglers with two goals on five shots and the first star of the night honor. Greg Collins was awarded the second star of the night for his one goal and one assist for Las Vegas. Kevin Schaeffer, Chris Francis, Ryan Huddy and Justin Bernhardt also tallied for the Wranglers in the win. Doug Krantz, C.J. Stretch, Alex Bourret, and Kyle Kraemer all tallied for the Reign in the loss. Ontario goaltender Mike Zacharias allowed seven goals on 31 shots taking the loss and dropping his record to 4-9-2 in his time with the Reign. Wranglers' goalie Michael Ouzas turned away 36 of the 40 shots he faced earning the win and improving his record to 17-11-2 on the season. The Wranglers were able to capitalize once with their three power play opportunities while allowing two goals on their eight penalty kill obligations. With the loss the Reign continue on a three-game losing skid and fall to 21-35-6 on the season as they hold the fourth place spot in the Pacific division. The win propels the Wranglers on a two-game winning streak as they improve to 35-19-5 with 75 total points and hold the first place spot in the Pacific division.
With the win Las Vegas improves to 4-1-1-1 against Ontario this season as the two teams will meet two more times this season. The first period of Friday night's contest saw both teams trade goals back-and-forth even though Ontario outshot Las Vegas 15-8. Chris Francis gave the Wranglers their first lead of the night at 4:37 of the first period with his fifth goal of the season assisted by Colin Long. Ontario tied the game 15 seconds later with Doug Krantz's first goal of the season assisted by Alex Bourret. Las Vegas took the lead back at 5:36 of the first period with Greg Collins' seventeenth goal of the season assisted by Blake Gallagher and Craig Switzer. The Reign knotted it at two with Kyle Kraemer's twelfth goal of the season assisted by Jordan Morrison and David Walker while the Reign were on the power play.
The same style of play between the Reign and Wranglers was seen in the second period as both teams traded goals back-and-forth just as they had done in the first period. Las Vegas hopped in front again at the :49 mark of the second period with Blair Riley's fifteenth goal of the season assisted by Aaron Power and Ryan Huddy while the Wranglers were on the power play. Less than a minute later Ontario tied it at three with C.J. Stretch's eighth goal of the season assisted by Justin Taylor. Exactly one-minute later at the 2:37 mark of the second period Blair Riley took the lead back for the Wranglers with his second goal of the period unassisted. Alex Bourret tied the game up at four while the Reign were on the power play with his ninth goal of the season at 6:07 of the second period assists going to David Walker and Jordan Morrison. Justin Bernhardt notched the final goal of the second period at the 8:05 mark with his fifth goal of the season assisted by Aaron Power and Colin Long. After two periods the Wranglers led 5-4 even though the Reign put up another 15 shots on net in the period and still led the overall shot count 30-19.
The third period would not continue the back-and-forth goals trend of the first two periods. Las Vegas outshot the Reign in final twenty minutes, held them scoreless, and also added two more goals to seal the win. Kevin Schaeffer notched his second goal of the season at the 3:43 mark of the third period assists going to Blake Gallagher and Greg Collins which made the score 6-4. Ryan Huddy slotted the final goal of the game with his team-leading twenty-fifth goal of the season giving the Wranglers the 7-4 victory over Ontario.
The same two teams battle again tomorrow night at Citizens Business Bank Arena. After tomorrow's game the Wranglers head home to host Alaska on March 15th for their first home game in over a month.
