
Royals Sign Defenseman Brock Meadows

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that team has signed defenseman Brock Meadows to an Amateur Tryout Agreement contract. In other transactions completed today, (i) forward Eric Castonguay was returned to the Royals from the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL; (ii) forward Andrew Sarauer was returned to Reading from the Hershey Bears of the AHL; (iii) goaltender Daren Machesney was returned to the Royals from the Worcester Sharks of the AHL; and (iii) forward Rob Slaney was placed on the 3-Day Injured Reserve. In transactions completed earlier this week, the Royals released goaltender Caylin Relkoff and defenseman Matt Baxter from their Amateur Tryout Agreements.
Meadows (6'1/206) (24), who hails from White Rock, British Columbia, recently completed his senior season with Robert Morris University, where he registered seven points (1g-6a) and fourteen penalty minute in twenty-four games. Meadows, who transferred to RMU after one season at Wayne State University, compiled twenty-four points (6g-18a) and eighty-four penalty minutes in 121 total college games. He was selected as the RMU Hockey Student Athlete of the Year in 2008-09. Castonguay, a third year pro from Granby, Quebec, was loaned to Bridgeport on February 12. He has played thirteen games this season for the Sound Tigers, scoring five goals and adding three assists (eight points) and picking up two penalty minutes. In forty-one games with Reading, Castonguay has twenty-nine points (9g-20a). Sarauer, a third year pro from Outlook, Saskatchewan, was loaned to Hershey on March 7. He played one game with the Bears without registering any points or penalty minutes. Sarauer has forty-five points (16g-29a) and thirty-six penalty minutes in forty-eight games with the Royals. Machesney, a fifth year pro from Lambeth, Ontario, was most recently loaned to Worcester on February 9. He played six games with the Sharks, compiling a 2-3-1 record with a 2.79 goals against average and an .896 save percentage, while recording two shutouts. Machesney has yet to appear in a game for Reading. Relkoff did not appear in any game action for Reading. Baxter played three games without registering any points or penalty minutes.
The Royals return to action tonight (Saturday, March 12 @ 7:05 pm) when the team will face the Toledo Walleye at the Sovereign Center. The Royals will celebrate St. Hattrick's Day and the Berks Jazz Fest. The first 2500 fans will receive a Royals' hat courtesy of Quadrant Engineering Plastic Products and Lasting Image Promotional Products. The Royals will wear special jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Berks Arts Council. The Royals game day broadcast will kick off with the pre-game warm-up show presented by The Works at Wyomissing on the Royals Broadcast Network (WRAW 1340 am in Reading, www.1340wraw.com) at 6:35 pm.
