Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
STOCKTON, California - Mathieu Aubin (OH-bihn) picked up a hat trick (three goals) in leading the Cincinnati Cyclones to a 5-0 win over the Stockton Thunder on Thursday night. It was the 16th straight win for the Cyclones, extending their ECHL record for consecutive triumphs. Maxime Daigneault registered 23 saves in picking up his first shutout as a Cyclones.
The Cyclones netted the two goals scored in the first period. Mathieu Aubin collected his 17th goal at 3:24, taking a feed at the top of the goal crease and one-timing a shot home. Olivier Latendresse centered the puck from the left corner to Aubin, with Jason Deitsch adding the other assist. At 10:19, Matt Syroczynski came racing down the slot and took a pass from the left faceoff circle and rifled home his 22nd goal of the year. David Desharnais and Thomas Beauregard added the assists on thescore.
Desharnais recorded an assist for the 19th consecutive game (3-30-33 points), extending his ECHL record. Peter Kasowski of Roanoke Valley, previously held the record at 17 games from Oct. 26 through Dec. 7, 1991 (28 assists).
The second period saw only one goal and that was netted by the Cyclones. Aubin picked up his second of the night and 18th of the year at 14:04 on the power play. Latendresse and Sean Perkins added the helpers. Aubin, who was named the ECHL Player of the Week for his efforts last week, he has seven goals and three assists for ten points in the last four games.
Aubin completed his hat trick at 5:52 of the third period, as Latendresses added the helper. Gerard Miller, returning from the 30-day injured reserve list, picked up his fifth goal of the season from Latendresse and Travis Fuller. Latendresse picked up four assists on the night.
The Cyclones began their 16-game winning streak against Dayton on Jan. 16 in a 3-2 win. The club has outscored the opposition, 66-26, during the run. It is the longest winning streak in ECHL history, breaking the mark set by Knoxville (1992-93) and Louisiana (2001-02).
For the first time in team history, the Cincinnati Cyclones are 33 games above .500, with a 41-8-3 record and sole possession of first place in the North Division-sixteen points ahead of second place Reading. The triumph gives Cincinnati a 25-2-1 record since December 15. Stockton is 22-30-3. The 41 wins are the most ever by the club.
The Cyclones continue their California swing with a Friday night visit (10:30pm ET) at Fresno. That game will be carried on 96 Rock, as will the other two games during the road trip.
