Condors add size with Gibbons
February 28, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors acquired F Ryan Gibbons from the Charlotte Checkers (ECHL) in exchange for future considerations today, as announced by Head Coach Marty Raymond. Gibbons is expected to join the team in Idaho this weekend.
Gibbons, 23, has skated in a total of 16 games this season for the Charlotte Checkers, and has recorded three points (1g-2a) and 11 penalty minutes. He spent the entire first half of the season on the injured reserve after undergoing surgery last summer.
The 6-foot-5-inch, 225-pound native of West Vancouver, British Columbia spent his first season in professional hockey with the Johnstown Chiefs (ECHL) last year. Gibbons played 57 games with the Chiefs, accumulating 12 points (4g-8a) and 38 penalty minutes.
"We're looking for a kid that has some size who can finish checks and will play hard," said Raymond. "And that's Mr. Gibbons - he can also play at center or wing which helps us."
Prior to turning pro, Gibbons played five seasons of junior hockey with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Western Hockey League from 2001 to 2006. During his stint with the Thunderbirds, he posted 96 points (58g-38a) and 416 penalty minutes in 291 games. He notched a career-high 31 points (15g-16a) in 2004-05, and a career-high 20 goals in 2005-06.
