Bakersfield Condors News Release
BOISE, Idaho - G Yutaka Fukufuji made 32 saves, plus another four in the shootout, to lead the Bakersfield Condors to a 4-3 comeback victory over the Idaho Steelheads in front of 3,961 fans at Qwest Arena Wednesday night. The win moves the Condors back into a tie with the Phoenix RoadRunners for the eighth and final National Conference playoff spot.
The Condors (17-28-9, 43 points) opened the scoring at 7:09, when D Reagan Leslie crashed the net and knocked in a rebound out of mid-air to make it 1-0. They added to the lead on a power play at 16:08, with LW Mark Derlago's team-leading 28th of the campaign. The Steelheads (31-17-9, 71 points) got on the board with just 4.5 seconds left in the period to make it a one-goal game through 20 minutes. Idaho tied it up and pushed in front during the second period. F Marty Flichel notched his 16th of the season at 4:08 to make it 2-2, and D Craig Cescon's shot was redirected past Fukufuji to make it 3-2 at 6:46. Fukufuji made 18 saves in a very busy second stanza.
The Condors tied it up in the third, catching a break when F Todd Griffith's rebound was deflected past Steelheads G Kellen Briggs by a sliding Idaho defenseman. It served as the game-tying goal and the teams headed to overtime.
Bakersfield outshot the Steelheads in overtime, 4-1, but neither team could break the tie in the extra session. C Tim Konsorada and LW Brett Lutes both netted goals in the shootout, as Fukufuji stopped four of the five shots he faced, leading the Condors to the 4-3 win.
