Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho- Good things are coming in big packages these days for the Boise Burn. Today the team announced that the arenafootball2 league office has assigned former Eagle High School and New Mexico State quarterback Royal Gill, 6-5, 220 pounds, to the Burn.

A three-year starter for the Mustangs from 1999-2001, Gill last ‘played' in Boise when his New Mexico State Aggies fell to Boise State 56-6 at Bronco Stadium during the 2005 season. Gill was sidelined with an injury that game. In his lone season at New Mexico State, Gill started 10 games completing 195 of 328 passes for 1,930 yards and 12 touchdowns.

In 2006, Gill transferred to Southern Utah where he had planned on finishing his collegiate play with the Thunderbirds, but was declared ineligible because of NCAA transfer rules.

After sitting out his senior year, Gill attended training camp with Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League in 2007. He spent the past month in Salt Lake City with the AFL's Utah Blaze, but was released on Feb. 23.

Gill is the fourth quarterback signed by Burn Head Coach Lee Leslie for the upcoming season, joining BJ Rhode, Jason Campbell and Matt Schabert.

The af2's Boise Burn opens camp on March 9 and kicks off its second season on Apr. 5 in Tulsa, with the home opener slated for Apr. 19 against the Tri-Cities Fever. Season tickets are available by calling (208) 383-0080. For more information and to get a full schedule, visit www.boiseburn.com.
