Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - Cincinnati Cyclones rookie center David Desharnais (DAY-arn-nay) has been named CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for November. Desharnais, 21, turned in a 20 points month on four goals and 16 assists, to go with a league-best +15 rating. The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.
Desharnais, a native of Quebec City, is the first Cyclones player to collect the Rookie of the Month award in team history. The 5-foot-6, 177 pounder had six multiple point games during the 14 games in November. Twice, he was a +3 in the plus/minus category.
For the season, Desharnais leads ECHL rookies with 18 assists, while his 25 points tie him for second place among first-year players. David turned in a career-high seven game point scoring streak from Nov. 13-28, as he picked up 15 points (4-11-15) to help the Cyclones move into first place in the North Division.
Desharnais played last season with Chicoutimi (QMJHL), where he amassed 108 points on 38 goals and 70 assists in 61 games. David also appeared in seven games with Bridgeport (AHL). A three-time winner of the Frank Selke Trophy as the league's Most Sportsmanlike Player, Desharnais has signed an AHL contract with Hamilton since joining the Cyclones.
Cincinnati is currently the co-leader of the North Division with a 14-5-1 record, the club's best 20 game mark in team history.
"David played well in November," Head Coach Chuck Weber said. "He has quickly emerged as one of the dominant young players in the ECHL."
The Cincinnati Cyclones play a pair of games at U.S. Bank Arena this weekend (Friday and Saturday) against the North Division co-leaders, Elmira. Face off both nights ts at 7:30pm. Tickets for all Cyclones games can be purchased at the U.S. Bank Arena box office, all Ticketmaster outlets including select Kroger stores, charge by phone at 513-562-4949 or online at ticketmaster.com.
