Checkers Kenny Smith Loaned To Providence

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers have loaned defenseman, Kenny Smith to the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.

Smith, 6'2, 210 pounds, has played in all 16 games for the Checkers this season registering one goal, two assists for three points with 29 penalty minutes. The Stoneham, Mass. native dressed in 64 games for the Checkers last season while spending time with both Providence and the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL).

Smith was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the third round of the 2001 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

The Checkers began their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on Dec. 7 against the Johnstown Chiefs. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date. The Checkers will enter their third season of play at St. Lawrence Homes Home Ice at Charlotte Bobcats Arena this fall. Season tickets are on sale now with full-season packages starting at just $399.
