Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters kicked off a Friday double-header against the Tri-City ValleyCats with a walk off win thanks to Gregori Rivero. Rivero drove in Josh Tobias from second base to give the Cutters a 1-0 win and snap their four game losing streak. The Cutters improve to 10-1 this season at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field.

The Cutters and ValleyCats were locked in a pitcher's duel from the first inning with both starters working 1-2-3 innings. Alejandro Arteaga looked to improve to 4-0 on the year and continue his strong start to the season. Arteaga would give the Cutters every chance to win the game keeping the ValleyCats scoreless for six innings. Arteaga struck out five batters while allowing just two hits.

Williamsport battled all night long against Tri-City starter Elieser Hernandez picking up their first hit in the fourth inning. Jose Pujols lead off the inning with a hit and that would be followed by a walk from Josh Tobias. With the Cutters trying to rally, Brendon Hayden would take a called third strike to end the inning. Tobias would reach base again in the seventh inning with a one out single. A walk to Hayden would move him up to second base and then allow him to score on the bloop single from Rivero.

With the win Williamsport improves to 14-5 on the season and Skylar Hunter moves to 2-0 on the season working a scoreless seventh inning while surrendering just one hit. Arteaga picked up the no decision after working six scoreless innings. The Cutters finished the game with three hits (all singles) and three walks.
