State College Takes Series Rubber Match

STATE COLLEGE, PA-The Connecticut Tigers (10-10) fell to the State College Spikes (10-10) on Friday night 7-5 in a back and forth affair.

Connecticut was looking to win their fourth straight series but after tying the game it was a three-run sixth inning that put the game away for State College. With Chase Edwards (2-2) on the mound the first four batters in the inning reached for the Spikes. Centerfielder Craig Aiken (1-3, 2 R, RBI) walked and moved to third on a double by catcher Jesse Jenner (1-4, 2B, RBI, R). Both scored after first basemen Casey Grayson (1-4, 2 RBI) doubled making it 6-4. Grayson has now reached base in nineteen straight games. One batter later Leobaldo Pina singled to push the lead to 7-4.

The Tigers trailed 4-0 after two innings but where able to tie it in the sixth inning. Third basemen Josh Lester singled to start the inning and Will Allen (2-4, RBI, R) moved him to third with a double. First basemen Tanner Donnels (2-4, RBI) followed with another double and just like that it was 4-2. Two RBI groundouts followed, one by right fielder Victor Padron and another by designated hitter Steven Fuentes tying the score at 4-4.

Matt Hall got the start on this night for Connecticut but struggled. He worked just three innings giving up three hits while allowing four runs, three earned and striking out four.

Connecticut will play Williamsport tomorrow in the first game of a three game series. The first pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
