Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters kicked off a Friday afternoon doubleheader against the Tri-City ValleyCats with a walk off win thanks to Gregori Rivero. The Cutters would follow that up with a 3-2 win in the night cap to win two of the three games against Tri-City. Williamsport improves to 11-1 this season at Susquehanna Bank Park at Historic Bowman Field.
The Cutters scored the first runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning against ValleyCats starter Rogelio Armenteros. Williamsport would load the bases after a walk to Jose Pujols and a pair of singles from Zach Coppola and Venn Biter. Brendon Hayden gave the Cutters a 1-0 lead with a bases loaded walk and Josh Tobias made it 2-0 after an error by Tri-City. The ValleyCats would rally for two runs of their own in the fourth inning to tie the game 2-2 against Cutters starter Jose Taveras.
Taveras battled all night long against Tri-City working five innings allowing four hits and striking out four batters. The Cutters defense helped to pick up Taveras when needed throughout the game. The Cutters turned a huge double play to end the fifth inning after Taveras issued a one out walk. Austin Bossart saved the bigger part of his two hit night for the fifth inning scoring Hayden from second base with an RBI single to make it 3-2.
With the win Williamsport improves to 15-5 on the season and Taveras moves to 2-1 on the season. Luis Morales tossed a scoreless inning of relief and Rob Tasin picked up his fourth save of the season tossing a clean seventh inning. Bossart finished the game 2 for 3 with an RBI while Josh Tobias went 1 for 2 with an RBI.
