Hudson Valley Walks Off In Extra Innings Over Brooklyn

Wappingers Falls, NY (7/10/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades won a 12-inning thriller at Dutchess Stadium on Friday evening, defeating the Brooklyn Cyclones by a score of 6-5. With the result, Hudson Valley improves to 10-10 on the season while Brooklyn drops to 14-6.

The 'Gades struck for a run in the bottom of the first on third baseman Matt Dacey's RBI double to right field, scoring shortstop Michael Russell. Brooklyn tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the second inning on an RBI sacrifice fly by left fielder Oswald Caraballo and took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning as catcher Jose Garcia scored on a wild pitch after doubling to lead off the inning.

Hudson Valley tied the game in the bottom of the third inning on Dacey's second RBI double of the night and took a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run single by right fielder Manny Sanchez and an RBI single by Cade Gotta.

That ended the night for Renegades starting pitcher Roel Ramirez as he tossed six innings and gave up two runs and one earned run while striking out four batters.

Brooklyn brought the score to 5-3 in the top of the seventh inning on a solo home run from Zach Mathieu. The Cyclones tied it later in the inning as a pair of runs scored when center fielder Tucker Tharp singled and advanced on a throwing error. The Renegades had the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning but reliever Corey Taylor induced designated hitter Nic Wilson into a double play and the game went to extra innings.

After a scoreless 10th and 11th inning, the Cyclones had runners on at second and third base with one out but Renegades reliever Cris Crisostomo (1-0) struck out right fielder Michael Bernal and Danny De La Calle threw out Tharp off third base. Gotta led off the bottom of the 12th inning with a single, moved to second on pinch hitter Joe McCarthy's walk and scored when center fielder Angel Moreno laid down a sacrifice bunt and the throw to third base from third baseman David Thompson went into left field.

Crisostomo picked up the win as he pitched three shutout innings in relief and struck out two batters. Nicco Blank (0-2) took the loss for Brooklyn after allowing all three batters to reach in the 12th inning. Matt Blackham started for the Cyclones and gave up five runs in four and two-thirds innings.

Notes: It was quite a home debut for Renegades third baseman Matt Dacey. The Tampa Bay Rays 2015 21st Round Draft pick got his first professional hit and RBI in the second inning, his first professional multi-hit game as he went 3-5 and scored his first run of his professional career.

The Renegades begin a three-game series at home against the Batavia Muckdogs, with game one scheduled for Saturday, July 11th at 7:05pm. Saturday evening is "Pajama Party Night" presented by UMAC along with the seasons first "All-Scout Sleepover" at Dutchess Stadium presented by Price Chopper.
