Williamsport Crosscutters News Release

The Williamsport Crosscutters won their eighth consecutive game to start the 2015 season with an 8-1 win against the Batavia Muckdogs. The 8-game winning streak it tied for the Cutters third longest in their history. The team also strung together 8 wins in a row on July 10-19, 2008.

On Friday night, Williamsport found themselves on top early taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Venn Biter grounded into a 4-6-3 double play that would allow Zach Coppola to score from third base.

Franklyn Kilome continued the Crosscutters trend of great starting pitching on Friday night. Making his second start of the year he would work 6 innings allowing just two hits and striking out six while keeping the Muckdogs scoreless. With Kilome getting through six innings the Cutters would only have to use one more pitcher on the night as Lewis Alezones logged three innings of relief. The Cutters would add to their lead in the second inning scoring two runs with RBI hits from Grenny Cumana and Zach Coppola. Jose Pujols and Brendon Hayden would join in on the fun in the fifth inning as they delivered RBI hits to help the Cutters take a 6-0 lead.

Jesus Posso would end the Cutters scoring on the night with a two run home run to left field in the bottom of the seventh inning off of Batavia reliever Ayron Adames to make it 8-0. Kilome moves to 1-0 on the season after throwing a season high 92 pitches. Alezones earned his first save of the season for the Cutters by throwing the final three innings. Alezones would surrender one run before the night came to an end as Stone Garrett broke up the shutout bid with a solo home run to lead off the ninth inning. Grenny Cumana finished the night 2 for 3 with one RBI and one run scored.
