Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
TROY, NY - One night after allowing only one hit during 6-0 shutout victory, the Tri-City ValleyCats could not hold back the Staten Island Yankees' offense, falling 7-4 on Saturday night in game two of the three-game opening homestand.
The Yankees took an early lead in the game, scoring twice in the top of the second inning. However, the 'Cats clawed right back in the bottom half of the frame, taking a 4-2 lead after third baseman Cesar Carrasco cleared the bases with a three-run double, then scored on an RBI single by shortstop Keach Ballard.
Unfortunately, Staten Island tacked on runs in the third and fourth innings to tie the game, and pushed back ahead with runs in the seventh and eight frames, building a three-run lead that the 'Cats could not overcome.
The two teams will return to Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Saturday night for the series finale. On the mound for ValleyCats will be RHP Harold Arauz (0-1, 20.25), with LHP Ethan Carnes (1-0, 1.80) getting the start for the Yankees.
Following the game, the 'Cats will head to Norwich, Conn., to take on the Connecticut Tigers for a three-game series, June 28-30, before returning to "The Joe" for a six-game homestand featuring games against the Vermont Lake Monsters (July 1-3), and the Lowell Spinners (July 4-6).
