BROOKLYN,NY - June 26, 2015 - It was a night of firsts at MCU Park as the Cyclones downed the Connecticut Tigers by the score of 4-1. 1B Michael Katz led the offensive charge, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, including his first home run as a professional. On the mound, RHP Gaby Almonte (1-1) tossed 6.0 innings, allowing one unearned run, on five hits, walking one and striking out three for his first win since August 29, 2013.

Early on, the Tigers offense looked sharp and were able to capitalize on a Cyclones error, which produced the team's lone run in the top of the first. With Corey Baptist batting and two runners aboard after a pair of singles, a throwing error by Almonte on a pickoff attempt at second base allowed Victor Padron to notch the first and only run of the game for Connecticut.

The Cyclones were quick to counter the Tigers' lead in the bottom of the second inning. After a double by Michael Katz, the first baseman stole third and advanced home on an errant throw by Tigers catcher Will Allen.

The Cyclones bats warmed up further in the fourth inning. After a single got Michael Bernal on base, the outfielder advanced to second on a balk with David Thompson at-bat. The Mets 4th round pick from the University of Miami took advantage of the scoring opportunity with his first professional hit, and RBI. The Cyclones third baseman hit a line drive single to bring Bernal home. Michael Katz then provided his own fireworks with a two-run blast over the left field wall to give the Cyclones a 4-1.

Cyclones relievers Nicco Blank, P.J. Conlon, and Alex Palsha tossed three near-perfect innings to close out the win. Palsha pitched the ninth to collect his second save of the seaon. The Cyclones and Tigers will close out Brooklyn's six-game home stand tomorrow night at MCU Park in the rubber match of their three-game series. Right-hander Michael Gibbons (1-0) will take the mound for the first time at MCU Park.
