Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers (3-5) dropped the second game of a three-game series against the State College Spikes (3-5), 5-0.
The Scrapper bats continue to be ice cold. They only had two hits in tonight's contest. They've scored zero runs in their last 28 innings and have only had six hits in their last 27. The Scrappers have lost three straight.
The only two hits were singles for Anthony Santander and Li-Jen Chu. The Spikes struck first in the top of the fifth on an RBI ground out for Jose Godoy scoring Thomas Spitz. The next inning, State College added another run when Craig Aikin scored on a Johan Puello wild pitch. State College led 2-0 at that point.
In the top of the eighth, Casey Grayson scored when Yoiber Marquina walked Godoy with the bases loaded. Danny Martin then singled to left and Ronnierd Garcia and Spitz scored on an error in left by Ka'ai Tom. This made it 5-0 State College.
Leandro Linares (0-1) was on the rough end of the decision. He went five innings giving up just two hits and an unearned run. He walked two and struck out two. Puello went 2.1 innings and allowed four runs, two of them earned. He walked three and didn't strike anybody out. The walks and wild pitches continue to hurt the Scrappers.
