Auburn Doubledays News Release

AUBURN, NY - June 25th, 2015 wasn't just Opening Day at Falcon Park this year, but also the first ever meeting between the West Virginia Black Bears and the Auburn Doubledays. After nine innings, the Bears roared and the Doubledays stumbled as West Virginia went on to win 12-3.

It all started in the second inning. After Logan Hill popped out to short on the first pitch of the inning, the singles and walks started flowing through Auburn. The Black Bears scored five in the second thanks to three singles, two walks, a hit by pitch, and an error to take a 6-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, the Bears increased their lead to 9-0. Robbie Dickey gave up three straight singles to lead off the inning, a triple, and then another single before he was eventually pulled for Luis Torres.

A couple innings later in the bottom of the seventh, the Doubledays finally got on the board. Kelvin Gutierrez walked to lead off the inning and then came around to score on David Kerian's triple into center field. Kerian then scored on Randy Encarnacion's single and Encarnacion came around to score thanks to an error by the shortstop Erik Forgione and a single by Bryan Mejia.

In the eighth, West Virginia increased it's lead to 10-3 off back-to-back doubles by Ty Moore and Logan Hill. But the scoring didn't stop there. The Black Bears added two more in the ninth off a couple of errors, walks, wild pitches, and eventually another Ty Moore double.

The 12-3 loss marked the largest loss of the season for the Doubledays and the first game this year in which Auburn didn't record at least 10 hits. The Doubledays look to bounce back tomorrow night when they host the Black Bears for game two of the series at 7:05.

Thursday's Particluars:
